Description

No. 125 (Fighter) Squadron was formed on 20 April 1942 at Sydney, Nova Scotia as part of RCAF Eastern Air Command.  Later renumbered No. 441 Fighter Squadron, the unit was transferred overseas on 8 February 1944 to RF Station Digby, Lincolnshire, England  Throughout the Second World War, 441 served at airfields in England, France, and Belgium, and upon return to England was disbanded on 7 August 1945.  On 1 March 1951, 441 Squadron reformed at RCAF Station St. Hubert dispacted to No. 1 Wing, at RAF North Luffenham, in Rutland, Englad on 13 February 1952.

The Squadron was temporarily situated at 3 Wing Zweibrucken on 21 December 1954, before moving to their intended destination at RCAF Station Marville, France.  They were deactivated on 1 September 1963 at Marvile and reformed as 441 Strike/Attack Squadron on 15 September 1963.  In April 1967, the Sqadron was moved with 1 Wing to Canadian Forces Base, Lahr, Germany.

In 1971 the Squadron moved to CFB Baden-Soellingen and changed its name to 441 Tactical Fighter Squadron, where they remained until 1986 when once again they were disbanded.  441 TFS was reformed once more in June 1987 at 4 Wing Cold Lake, where it remained until 6 July 2006 whent he unit was amalgamated into the newly formed 409 Tactical Fighter Sqn.

441 TFS' Guidon and battle honours have been placed for safekeeping at the Sydney City Hall in Nova Scotia where it was first formed.
